"For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please." Galatians 5:17

The Bible says that blessings or curses is our choice, - "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, for this is your life and the length of your days." Deuteronomy 30:19-20

The blessing is in the Spirit and obedience and the curse is in the flesh and disobedience. The Spirit and the flesh are the two forces which will determine the course of your life. The flesh curses and kills and the Spirit blesses and gives life. The flesh represents this present world and it’s kingdoms and the Spirit represents the perfect world to come and the Kingdom of God.

 Each of us will move in the direction of our most dominate thought whether it be of the world or of God - Whether it be downward toward hell or upward toward Paradise.

James wrote that we cannot be friends with the world without becoming an adulteress. Our upward call is to be the bride of Christ, pure and undefiled by the world. Jesus said that His followers, though in the world, are not of the world, which explains why the world hates us.

We will be tempted by the pulls of the flesh but God will rescue us if our heart belongs to Him, -"The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of Judgment, and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority." (2 Pet.2)
