Faith of a Child

"But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us! And Jesus said to him, ‘If You can? All things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief.’" Mark 9:24

Everything we see was created out of what we do not see. The Bible says that faith is the substance of things not yet seen. Faith has the power to speak into existence what we do not now see. Jesus told His disciples that if they were to say to a mountain, -"Be removed and cast into the sea" it would happen because the mountain is subject to the word spoken in faith. Faith has the power to make of you what God wants you to be. We must believe that God will never deny Himself -it is the veracity of His Word that is at stake.

The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God, for we must believe Him and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. It is His will that we live in faith. God provides for us through faith. We are saved by grace through faith - we are healed by faith - we are delivered by faith - and we are protected by Satan’s missiles of doubt by the shield of faith.

We need the faith of a little child. I was often amazed at the simple faith of my son Michael when he was a toddler. If there was a need it was simple to him -just pray with expectation. If one of his sisters couldn’t find their shoes Michael’s first response was to ask God in faith. Time after time his prayers were answered.

One day I happened to mention how much I missed a special pen that had been missing for almost a month. I looked and little Michael was face-down praying. -"Lord, help Daddy find his pen."

Within a day or two I was on interstate coming home when the thought entered my mind to stop in a small town just five miles from home to check my oil. I pulled up into a Church driveway and as I was getting back into my vehicle I noticed something shiny in the grass. To my amazement it was my special pen.

As I pondered on now my pen got there I remembered that I had stopped in that place about a month earlier to talk to someone and I must have dropped my pen. Those two times were the only times that I had ever been in that driveway. I’m a little ashamed to say that I was surprised, but little Michael was not at all. Doubt never entered his mind and from his experience faith knew no defeat.
