There are a number of religions which acknowledge the life of Jesus. Some believe that He was a great teacher inspired by God. The Islamic faith believes that Jesus was a Prophet of God. To most Christians today, Jesus is widely accepted as God, but did the early Christians believe that? There are a variety of ideas and philosophies about who Jesus is, but only one can be true. Just what does the Bible say about Him? What claims, if any, did Jesus, Himself make? Is Jesus the Son of God? If He is the Son of God, does that make Him God? Was He merely a man? Was He really born of a virgin? Is He a created being like the angels? Was He really crucified? Was He resurrected from the grave? Does He have the power to forgive sin? Where is He now? Is He coming back to the earth? Bible Translation: NASV DEFINITIONS The Old Testament of the Bible is written primarily in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. God: Hebrew-“Elohim” A uniplural noun. The “im” makes the word plural. For example, a single angel may be called a “Cherub” but more than one are called “Cherubim.” While on the cross Jesus cried out to God using the singular form of Elohim saying “Elohi, Elohi.” YHWH- These are the consonants which some believe to be the proper name of God. The vowels are not positively known but some speculate the name to be “Yahweh”with the vowels added. It is usually translated into the English “Lord” in Scripture. The meaning of this name is “I AM, that I AM.” In its fullest it means “I WILL BE WHATEVER I AM NEEDED TO BE.” So when man needed a Savior, God became “I AM Savior” and when man needed a healer God became “I AM your Healer”, etc. God: Greek- “Theos”. This word is not only used to identify the God of Israel but also in reference to pagan gods. The real point is that there is no God but the true God . Jesus: Hebrew -“Yeshuah” meaning “salvation.”
