| "I
don’t feel it matters what day you have your church services.
There have been so many calendars, who’s to say what day is truly
the Sabbath? We should worship God every day not just one."
Jared |
Dear Friend,
Regarding the Sabbath, the only calendar that matters is the Hebrew
Calendar which God gave to Israel. This Calendar is almost 5800 years old
and is still in use. It has been updated from time to time to ensure the
seasons fall correctly, ( a 13th month is added 7 times in each
19 year cycle) but the 1st day of each month is always the
slight crescent, the 15th is always a full moon, and the
weekdays have never been altered. The Hebrew Calendar of today is the same
unchanged one that Jesus and the Apostles used. God is not a God of
confusion, and if He commanded people to keep the Seventh day holy He
would never allow its identity to be hidden. The Bible says that God never
asks us to do something we cannot do. The Calendar was one of the sacred
"oracles" which God has entrusted to the Jews. (Romans 3:2)
Jesus kept the Sabbath. (Luke 4:16) One need not attempt to return to
creation week to find the correct day, Jesus declared Himself "Lord
of the Sabbath" (Matt.12:8) -He knew which day the Sabbath was and it
is the same day the Jews keep today - Saturday.
Because a person keeps the Sabbath day doesn’t mean
he does not worship God everyday. That line of reasoning would mean people
who attend Sunday services only worship day one day a week too. But the
Bible clearly says that God sanctified ("set apart") and made
holy the Seventh day. God made that distinction not me, I simply obey His
Commandment to honor it and keep it holy. God also Commanded that His
servants work the first six days of the week. Jesus warned that those who
attempt to worship God according to the traditions of man rather than the
Commandments of God worship in vain. (Matt. 15:9) Jesus also said that God
must be worshiped in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) It is on the Sabbath
alone that God commands a holy assembly. Would it be wrong to have
assemblies on other days? No, but it is wrong to exclude the Sabbath in
the process. You may have your own philosophy Jared regarding whether the
Sabbath matters or not, but God has not asked for it, nor will He be
impressed with it. God is looking for those who will obey Him.
Jesus made a distinction between the weekdays when he
instructed end-time believers to pray that their flight from Anti-Christ
would not fall in the winter or on the SABBATH. (Matt.24:20) Obviously,
any other day would be fine because they are not holy. Did you know that
all mankind will keep the Sabbath when Jesus establishes the Kingdom of
God upon the earth? "And it shall be from new moon to new moon and
from Sabbath to Sabbath, all mankind will come to bow down before Me, says
the Lord." (Isaiah 66:23)
