Question No. 10

Have a Question? Ask Brother Larry

"Your view seems to be too narrow. I know people of different faiths who believe that they have the truth. If they are wrong they don’t know it." Debbie

Dear Friend, I don’t want to be guilty of holding a view that is really "too narrow" but the Way of true Christianity is a narrow one,- "For the gate is small and the Way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matt.7:14) A Samaritan woman once took issue with Jesus over where God should be worshiped. She said that her ancestors had always worshiped the God of Israel on a mountain and were offended that some insisted that God must be worshiped in Jerusalem. Jesus replied,- "You worship what you do not know. . .God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth." Obviously, she believed that she had been worshiping the same God as Jesus was but was wrong.

Satan is very crafty and is skilled in philosophic deception. The Bible says that there is a way that seems right to a man but its end is death. (Prov.16:25) God expects people to seek Him and His will. Jesus said,- "Seek and you will find." If a person does not seek his own purpose for being and seek the God who created him, what excuse will he have at the judgment? One should always examine himself to insure that he is in the will of God.

All pagan religions stem from demonic spirits and the imagination of men. Human reasoning as influenced by the fallen spirits accounts for all the systems of idolatry. But idolatry is not just the practice of worshiping an idol one can see and touch, it can also be something which is set-up in the minds and hearts of men. Like the Samaritan woman of Jesus’ day, many today worship a god of their own imagination. They may imagine a god which would send no one to Hell but welcome everyone into Heaven. Or imagine a god which has no real standard by which He expects His followers to practice,- "just do the best you can with what you think is right." It is worthless to worship a god of your own imagination. In reality, God expects us to seek what is actually right and true.

Truth is not what you convince yourself of, truth is what God declares it to be. Delusion and lies will always seek you, but when it comes to truth you must do the seeking. You should know by experience as a human being that the whole truth regarding anything must always be actively pursued. Truth never just falls in your lap. Jesus said that when you know the truth it sets you free. Where there is deception there is captivity and where there is truth there is freedom. Jesus said that the Heavenly Father is seeking true worshipers who will worship Him in spirit and truth. I will always encourage people to be true worshipers and sometimes that means tearing down a citadel of deception and sin.
